Metal Building Ceilings.

How to install radiant barrier on your metal building ceilings.

Measure the Area: Determine the square footage of the walls and roof to calculate the amount of radiant barrier material needed.

Safety First: Ensure you have appropriate safety gear, including gloves, safety glasses, and a stable ladder.

A. Roof Installation

  • New Construction:
    • Install the radiant barrier over the purlins before placing the metal roof panels.
    • Ensure a minimum ¾” air gap between the radiant barrier and the roof panels to maximize reflectivity.
  • Retrofit:
    • Attach the radiant barrier to the underside of the roof purlins or trusses using staples or screws.
    • Maintain an air gap between the barrier and the roof deck.

B. Wall Installation

  • New Construction:
    • Place the radiant barrier between the metal siding and the interior wall framing.
    • Ensure it faces the interior of the building.
  • Retrofit:
    • Install the radiant barrier on the interior side of the walls, securing it to the framing members.
    • Seal all seams with appropriate foil tape to prevent air infiltration.

3. Sealing and Finishing

  • Use foil tape to seal all seams and joints, ensuring an airtight installation.
  • Inspect the installation for any gaps or areas where the barrier may not be properly secured.
