How to install radiant barrier on your metal building ceilings.
1. Preparation
Measure the Area: Determine the square footage of the walls and roof to calculate the amount of radiant barrier material needed.
Safety First: Ensure you have appropriate safety gear, including gloves, safety glasses, and a stable ladder.

2. Installation Methods
A. Roof Installation
- New Construction:
- Install the radiant barrier over the purlins before placing the metal roof panels.
- Ensure a minimum ¾” air gap between the radiant barrier and the roof panels to maximize reflectivity.
- Retrofit:
- Attach the radiant barrier to the underside of the roof purlins or trusses using staples or screws.
- Maintain an air gap between the barrier and the roof deck.
B. Wall Installation
- New Construction:
- Place the radiant barrier between the metal siding and the interior wall framing.
- Ensure it faces the interior of the building.
- Retrofit:
- Install the radiant barrier on the interior side of the walls, securing it to the framing members.
- Seal all seams with appropriate foil tape to prevent air infiltration.
3. Sealing and Finishing
- Use foil tape to seal all seams and joints, ensuring an airtight installation.
- Inspect the installation for any gaps or areas where the barrier may not be properly secured.
